So You Think You Can Dance Season 8 Auditions

The auditions begin in Oakland, CA at the Paramount Theater for the Arts, located at 2025 Broadway Street, on Wednesday, October 13th and will continue on Monday, November 15th in Brooklyn, New York at the Howard Gilman Opera House located at 30 Lafayette Avenue. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at both locations and dancers coming from out of town are expected to make overnight accommodations for at least two days in case they receive a call back from the casting directors and judges.

With so much excitement, one can feel tense and even a little intimidated by the sheer number of people coming out to dance. But with the right preparation, dancers can tip the odds in their favor by training hard, letting their personality shine, and dancing with confidence.

First, a dancer has to catch the eye of the executives through their dance ability. Strong technique in Ballet dance can make a world of difference when performing a Ballroom routine, Hip Hop dance, or Modern/Contemporary piece. Foot placement, weight transfer, and timing to the music are essential to showcasing dance regardless of the genre and the judges are well seasoned to identify those that have it versus those who don't.

Body movements such as isolations and extensions demonstrate muscle control and flexibility, which are valuable skills to showcase. Athleticism is also a major contributor to dance ability and can be done through gymnastics and even martial arts. A dancer shouldn't do more than their dance level as a mistake on the stage is sure to result in a negative response from the judges. Engaging freestyle dancing and proper execution of choreography is a major element of making it to Hollywood. Dancers need to prove their ability to dance Hip Hop styles along with Ballroom for the judges.

In addition to dance ability, those auditioning need to be personable for audience viewers at home to relate to them. A personal challenge or life change can add to the story of dance and makes the judges and potential viewers intrigued. A unique style that entertains and confidence on stage both create stardom and can change a dancer's life at the auditions.

Dreams do come true and dancers at the 2010 Season 8 auditions of Fox's So You Think You Can Dance reality dance competition is the chance of a lifetime to make them happen on national television.
